"Rascal"

This is a postumous portrait of a beloved pet and friend of a lovely woman I know.  Rascal was a Border Collie/ Husky mix with gorgeous blue eyes. When reviewing all of her photographs, it was evident she adored playing in the snow so I thought this would be an appropiate scene in which to place her.  The reason I painted a fox in the background was  that around the time Rascal arrived, foxes were regular visitors in the owner's backyard.  Immediately following Rascal's passing, a lone fox reappeared.

"Stanley" and Friends

Here's a wonderful commission I've just completed.  "Stanley" is the Norwich Terrier on the bottom.  He's looking at a bumble bee to his right.

In addition to painting, I also give private dog training lessons and Stanley was a student of mine.  He's the cutest student I've ever had and being young and a terrier, easily distracted.  The  two labs are postumous portraits of prior dogs in the owners' lives.  I know Stanley and it wouldn't be Stanley sitting there looking distinguished, no Stanley is Stanley when he's looking for trouble, hence the bee.

I finally had the time this summer to paint a few small local landscapes which will be at the various shows at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation gallery all summer.  The first one displayed, Manana from Monhegan, sold immediately.  If you happen to be in the Boothbay Harbor, Maine region stop by at 1 Townsend Ave in Boothbay Harbor to see the gallery.

I am busy with commission work now and hope to get a few paintings done inbetween for the yearly invitational Skyline Farm Show, "Maine Harvest-Land and Sea",  beginning Sept. 25.  FMI about this show go to www.skylinefarm.org.

Barbour (wax coats)on Commercial Street in Portland, Maine has asked to display my artwork at their store for a month long solo show starting September 4, 2009. If you happen to be in Portland around then, please feel free to stop by.  Dog and Horse Fine Art Dealer has been very generous in shipping artwork up to Maine for the show along with some wonderful clients of mine who are lending me their commissioned paintings for the exhibit.  More details to come later.
