FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR COMMISSIONED PAINTINGS
How can I be assured it will look like my pet?
Your portrait is guarenteed or money back! As far as I know, I've had a 100% success rate. Many of my clients are repeat customers.
How long will it take to paint the portrait?
It depends on the complexity, size, time of year and medium . Oil paintings will be completed in 3-6 months , Charcoal drawings average one month's time . I also guarentee my promised date of completion.
Do you paint from life or photographs?
Ideally both. Frequently the animal has passed away and photographs are all the client has to work from. Many of my clients come from other parts of the country. In that case, if their photographs are of good enough quality, I will paint from them, although I prefer to paint from my own photographs.
Do I get my photographs back?
Yes.
Does my portrait have to have a background?
No. This is entirely up to the client. Many people choose to skip a detailed background in order to make the portrait more affordable.
What is your process in working with a client and starting a commission?
Once I receive the photographs, I discuss them with the client and learn as much as I can about their pet(s). Then we discuss background choices, shape, and size of the portrait and date of completion. I require a 50% deposit once I begin composing the portrait. Once the portrait is completed, I then email a photograph of the completed portrait to the client for their approval. Once it is approved by the client, I request the balance due.
